There are may more types of tile joint grouting material available in the markets so that the material can fulfill the specific requirements. Ex:
a. Cementitious non - sanded grout
b. Cementitious sanded grout
c. Resinious grouts:
1. Epoxy grout
2. Furane grout
In this blog we talk about the cementitious Vs epoxy tile joint grout. Hope as we all know all products are designed / formulated to meets the standards and accordingly manufactured. For the tile joint grouting material, it has to full fill the requirements as per standard EN 13888 for both cementitious and epoxy grout.
Material may full fill the standard requirement, but at site level, few engineers and client inspect the material on there own experiences and need. Ex, rubbing the grout surface with fingers, scratching the grout surface with sharp objects, water droplet test.
Rubbing the grout surface with fingers: cementitious material stops leaving the color residue after 3-4 water wash cleaning. Even it leaves the color at the places of food grade areas, it does not affect the surrounding materials up to certain extent. See the video:
Scratching the grout surface: purposefully scratching the cementitious grout surface, will cause line marks, but this will not happens if any persons walk on the floor surface. so this test is not all suitable with the cementitious grout material. if you really want scratch-proof grout, then you have to choose the epoxy based grouts. See the video:
Water droplet test: grout material are not for waterproofing, they can resist the water up to certain extent, so point to be observed is that the application also major role if want to use the tile joint grout material as waterproofing. Epoxy grouts are more water resistance than the cementitious grouts. See the video:
If you want to increase the water resistance of the cementitious grouts, apply some sealers on the top surface of the cementitious tile joint grout surface.See the video:
