Resistance to root penetration property of coating / sheet membranes can be tested as per European standard EN and EN 13948. This test with root protection membrane, roof and waterproof primer layers and greenhouses for testing the resistance to the penetration of liquid surface treatment material according to the FLL (Forschungsgesellschaft Landschaftsentwicklung Landschaftsbau) rules for planning, construction and green roof maintenance, ISO / EN standards.
In this test, the membrane (bitumen, plastic, polyurethane, cementitious acrylic, polyurea and rubber flexible plates, liquid applied kits…) is exposed to root penetration in test containers for a certain period of time. The containers are mounted in a modern greenhouse dedicated to climate control.
After the testing period, the growing substrate is taken away and the behaviour of the test samples is assessed to observe if any root penetration has occurred. The growing period is 2 years as this period is the minimum time necessary to obtain reliable results.
Generally, rhizomes of bamboo grasses are very dangerous for waterproof membranes and these are used to grow in the applied or membrane installed container.
